Flappers wearing short skirts and high heels, with beads, hats, and makeup sashay down Eureka's streets on the arms of dapper men sporting fedoras and spats.

When the Redwood Coast Jazz Festival is in town it seems like the Roaring Twenties. Men looking like Al Capone and Bugsy Siegel stroll the streets with ladies in colorful costumes on their arms.

The nineteenth annual Jazz Festival is coming to town! For four days, from March 26-29, 2009 Eureka will be pulsing with music. The energy is contagious.

Eureka is located 275 miles north of San Francisco on the coast. The lovely Redwood Highway, Highway 101 between San Francisco and Eureka, is 100 years old this year. The drive includes the pristine vineyards of Sonoma and Mendocino Counties and winds along with the Eel River over the hills and through the redwood forests. Avenue of the Giants is a popular scenic drive that parallels the freeway.

The art scene of Humboldt County is vibrant. Downtown Eureka, a Victorian Seaport with elegant old mansions that have been lovingly restored, is full of galleries, specialty shops selling local products, a waterfront walk, and many superb restaurants within walking distance. The U.S. Census Bureau has named Humboldt County as home to the most artists per capita in California. Most of the downtown businesses, shops and restaurants display the work of local artists.

Humboldt County is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Fishing, river rafting, kayaking, surfing, hiking, and biking are a few of the favorite activities. The temperate climate allows for outdoor adventures year-round, although rainstorms are common and umbrellas are highly recommended.

Eureka is getting ready to rock. The venues are ready, the line-up is impressive, and people will literally be dancing in the streets during the Redwood Coast Jazz Festival March 26-29, 2009.
